While many of the adventures I’m writing about for my #100dayproject are about things I’ve done, today’s post is about the adventure of doing without.

Specifically, starting Friday, I’m taking a break from social media. Calling it “fasting” would make me sound hyper-spiritual, but the truth of the matter is I’m afraid of Avengers: Infinity War spoilers.

My family – parents, sister and her crew, Jay & I have plans to see the movie Monday night. While Marvel has even created a hashtag to remind people to not spoil things for the world – #ThanosDemandsYourSilence – I still don’t trust people.

Taking a cue from a friend, I swore off social media for four days. No step away from Facebook would be complete without a post making my bold declaration. Twitter got no such fanfare.

Instagram…well, I’ll just say that a girl can’t completely go without connectivity. I feel like my Insta feed is a safe crowd. Excluding my sister, I’m not sure I follow anyone who would see the movie much less post about it.

My rule has two other exceptions. I’m popping on long enough to post my #100daysofawkwardadventures blog links. So far I’ve had enough self control to not do any scrolling while I’m there.

Also, I’m still checking my messenger app. I have daily conversations with my family and a couple groups of close friends there. Only one person I chat with on messenger has seen the movie, and she was the original friend who inspired me to stay off to remain spoiler free.

Currently my Facebook app shows 16 notifications just waiting on me to come look at them, but I’m resisting. I’m also finding other ways to spend my time. Given that messenger, Insta, and of course this blog are still on the table, I’m not saying I’m breaking out the chalk for a game of hopscotch. I do, however, mostly like the pause it gives me to think about where I’m going online and why.

Maybe if I get really brave, I’ll go totally without, but I’m not there at the moment. For now, I’m trying to enjoy the break in my same ole routine.
