I’ve kept a gratitude journal for several years now. Originally, I took Ann Voskamp’s challenge from her book 1,000 Gifts, never dreaming I could reach that number. I reached that goal in 2013 and decided to just keep going.
I’m an Enneagram 1, a perfectionist, a noticer of all that’s wrong in my environment. Noticing and appreciating the good is a much-needed discipline for me. A few years back, I shared entries from my thankful list regularly, and I’ve decided to get back to it.
These days, I’m pushing 15,000 blessings in my life, recorded over several journals. Here is a sampling from the last few months.
14,607 Enjoying my lunchtime run
14,629 Perfect weather for outdoor work errands
I’ll admit, not all of the items on my list are unique. Given that the list is mine, I get the make the rules. And I say that any time I pause to appreciate something in my life, even if the event is a recurring character in my story, it counts!
14,635 Papaw’s 87th!
14,667 Jay getting me set up on the computer for a writing webinar
Other things aren’t so common. My grandfather’s birthday is extra special, given the health problems he’s had over the past year or so.
14,694 Creating a pretty BuJo spread
14,709 Breakfast in the national park with clients/friends
14,718 Baby geese
I’m continually amazed at the number of clients Jay has that become our friends. He’s such a great guy that even after the sale they want to spend time with him (us). This particular set of friends often invites us to cookouts in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The occasion is the triple threat of gratitude items – great company, excellent food, and our favorite place to enjoy!
14,730 Leftovers for lunch
14,759 Cute hair on a rainy day (side pony)
Sometimes it’s the little things that get me through the day – like the ability to feel cute when I’ve spent approximately 24 seconds on my hair.
14,772 Three hour Sunday nap
14,792 Cute Air B&B in Asheville
We’re on the tail end of concert season and I’m grateful for (most) every moment. We started on October 10th seeing Thomas Rhett with my niece and her boyfriend. Then Jay and I traveled on our dateversary (13 years from our first date) to Asheville to see Jamey Johnson at The Orange Peel. We headed back to North Carolina to see Clint Black on October 24th – aka Jay’s 40th birthday. This past weekend we spent the evening in Asheville once again at the Cody Jinks concert on November 8th – our 11th wedding anniversary. This weekend we’ll be seeing Garth Brooks in Knoxville because, well, Garth.
